“This donkey grabbed my eye from the first time I saw his picture. With his soft , subtle color and shading, he simply glows when one looks at him. The overall photograph is very complimentary to him and further helps his beautiful color to stand out. This model also possesses a certain look about him that is dignified yet commanding. He looks as though I could reach out and run my hand over his coat. Every time I came across his picture throughout the judging process, my eyes would light up and I found myself taking in every detail of him. He was an absolute joy to behold and judge.”

“ALL of Kim’s extremely creative photos of this sweet mule & his adorable owner are simply hilarious!!! From herding pigs, gopher patrol, hiding from the po-po, selling TP along the trail, stopping to “taste” the flowers instead of jumping and their idea of barrel racing & pole bending, just to name of few, but this one might be my favorite! This is Fergus’ idea of ROPING! He’s ‘roped’ the horns of the steer skull hanging on the pole & patient Biscuit is standing quietly with a clothes line tied off to his saddle horn where Fergus has hung his wash to dry J. Kim’s blurb on the back says, ‘I bet that steer hasn’t moved in 40 years! But if Biscuit stands still for another 40 minutes, the laundry will be dry!”

“I am so impressed by the novice photos! Congratulations to all of you! I am a big believer in making our model horses look real, but the model I selected for Judge’s Choice is on a plain background. I know the technology has changed, and I’m not afraid to embrace that change. Alexa’s photo is lit in such a way that the model is shown in detail. The photo is focused, clear, and well lit. I assume the setting is a light box with LEDs. This is something many of us old school types have not yet tried, but I am definitely impressed with the results.”
