“I chose Major Victory for several reasons. This is the most romantic of all the photos in the entire division and I do love it when a photo is artistically put together; and because the horse is perfectly angled to show it to it’s best advantage.
I was not able to place this horse in the show except as an honorable mention, however, because the photo is old, small, becoming discolored and the horse is not close enough to read details well. Compositionally I’m in love, but the original photo left me nothing to judge. Shown here is a picture of the picture that I took with my Canon Powershot, which actually corrected the color somewhat, and I was able to crop the image and bring the horse forward. He’s gorgeous. He should be in the top ten. He just needs a new photo.
My second reason for choosing this image is very personal. I am always impressed with perfect lighting, yes, and sharp focus, of course, and proper breed selection, and a really nice model. But what I really love is the extra effort, determination and passion it takes to put all those technical elements into a scene, a setting, to tell a story. Congratulations Mary Ann Dalton and Major Victory for doing that so well.”

“There isn’t enough I can say about this entry. The horse has so much depth, she looks like she could start breathing at any second. The background really compliments her color, but isn’t distracting. I’ve caught myself staring on numerous occasions! I can’t get over the workmanship and overall composition of this horse. She may be ‘plain’ bay, but she’s EXTREMELY striking. Definitely wouldn’t mind having this lady on my shelf!”

“I chose this horse for the value it has to the owner, and the overall suggestion of importance as to the reason we collectors love our model horses. There was a brief identification on the back of this photo stating ‘In memory of my 1st pony, Buttercup, who looked like this.’ The model is a 1994 vintage custom by Linda Hardy. Ordinarily a model such as this one might have a hard time competing with sleekly crafted contemporary custom models of the present time. However, it is the indicated value of the model which makes it my choice above all others I received. As a collector of over 20 years of experience, I personally value real horses first as inspiration for our love of their model replicas. Buttercup’s memory is preserved in model form, reminding not only the owner, but other collectors of the deep rooted love we have for our horses.”

“I chose this entry due to its correct subject matter. The Liberty Class which is seen at Arabian Shows. The horse is taken into the arena and turned loose with the owner standing within the arena while the horse plays. The judge makes their choice by the fluid movement of the animal. The more animated the horse the better that movement is depicted. The model in this photo is suited perfectly for the class and the background used along with the handler is wonderful. Good job!”
