“I was having such fun judging this Division… until I got to this. Judge’s Choice…and I can only pick ONE? MEPSA, you are being so mean to me! Where do I even start? So many excellent models – every horse that made it to this show was marvelous. I wavered between this one and that one, and finally decided on Mercedes, a Donkey foal owned by Elizabeth LaRose. She is an Original Sculpture by Kerri Pajutee, with a natural fiber coat. Her photograph is simple yet clear and well-lit, and highlights the unusual workmanship. Her playful pose is charming and looks very natural – a real cutie”

“The novice show series was created to help new model equine photo showers improve their photography skills. So it was with great pleasure that I selected this year’s winner. This photo is just so bright and easy to see! The lighting and color are great – with no noticeable shadow. The footing blends well with the color of the background and you don’t notice the transition. The color palette is limited and the background sets off the color of the horse in a beautiful way. The simple background does not interfere with the lines of the horse (as may happen with a busy background) and at the same time, looks realistic. There may have been more impressive show horses in the division, but this was my favorite photograph! Congratulations to Shanly and to all the novices on a job well done! I hope we will be seeing you all in the open division next season!”
